Courtesy Visit by Dr. Ivarsson, a professor of Ume? University

Monday, November 19, Our President, Dr. Kohei Shiota received a courtesy call from Dr. Ivarsson, a professor/chief physician at Department of Public Health and Clinical Medicine, Ume? University in Sweden and Dr. Hajime Takeuchi, a professor at Department of Social Welfare, Bukkyo University. Director Ogasawara and Prof. Aiura also joined the meeting and had a pleasant talk.

Dr. Ivarsson is an expert of Epidemiology and Public Health Sciences, and a pediatrician specialist. She is nationally and internationally known for decades of coeliac disease research, and a scientific leader of the Salut Child-Health Intervention Program in V?sterbotten.

In the afternoon, she gave a fascinating lecture on `Good health for every child –how can you contribute?’. About 40 faculty staff members and students attended to hear her presentation and enjoyed an exciting question –answer session. The next day, Tuesday 20th, she visited to see the Center for Epidemiologic Research in Asia (CERA). Thorough her two-day visit, we had amicable gatherings and meetings to build a deeper understanding and friendship.

SUMS and Ume? University will strive to develop successful collaboration including an academic agreement conclusion, in a wide range of areas to foster teaching, research and clinical science cooperation.
